Get Coding Help and Test the Result

Use an AI coding assistant to write or fix code that calls an API, without blindly trusting that the AI got the API's actual response shape right.

Prerequisites

A code editor with GitHub Copilot installed, The API endpoint you're integrating with

Estimated time

Varies by task

Cost

GitHub Copilot's free tier covers 2,000 code completions and 50 chat requests per month (verified 2026-09-18). Our REST client and JSON formatter are free with no usage limit.

Steps

  1. 1.
    REST API Client

Before asking the AI to write integration code, send a real request to the API yourself so you know exactly what a correct response looks like.

  2. 2.
    JSON Formatter

Pretty-print that real response so you can describe its exact structure to the AI, instead of letting it guess.

  3. 3.
    GitHub Copilot (external AI tool)

Now ask for the integration code, giving it the real response shape you just confirmed.

  4. 4.
    Regex Tester

If the code needs to validate or extract a specific string pattern from the response, test that pattern here before trusting it in production.

Quality checks

  • Never trust AI-suggested code against a live API without testing the actual request/response yourself first — Copilot can produce code that looks correct but assumes an API shape that doesn't match what the endpoint actually returns.

If something goes wrong

  • If the generated code fails against the real API, paste the actual error and the real response structure back to the AI rather than asking it to guess again from scratch.

Privacy

Code suggestions are processed by GitHub/Microsoft's Copilot service (external, not local). The REST client, JSON formatter and regex tester all run entirely in your browser — no request data passes through our servers.
